THE Lowly Peon

sweet home, chicago

well, actually, the 'burbs. but same idea. anyway, i'm back home. i arrived sometime yesterday morning, confused as hell that it was so early but felt so late. saintly klcomp was there, after fighting early morning chicago traffic, to pick me up from o'hare. we got a cup of coffee and enjoyed the wonderful weather, chatting about this and that from my trip. i'm gonna try to post more about those little things in life, though you all know i've said that before. but to begin my attempted resolution, i'd like to say this: i love hackers. since being far from the states (and a computer), quite a bit has happened. two or three days before i left, someone figured out how to write a native application for the iPhone (for those of you living under a rock for the last three months, you had to run applications through safari, which meant you needed internet access to run any app). since then, they've made tons, and all without hacking (which both requires knowledge, time, and the risk of turning your iPhone into an iBrick). some guy also figured out how to unlock the iPhone, meaning you can now use it with other GSM services like t-mobile. or, for me, that means i can take it with me to china and not pay $3000 in two weeks for international data. so, thanks, hackers. you make me happy. as a sidenote: i start work at bray in a little over a week. i'm excited!
