multi million dollar spam

no, not the horribly unappealing meat substitute. generally, i hate to see headlines along the lines of "some ginormously huge and rich company just won a lawsuit for a zillion dollars". i immediately assume it's the RIAA or some other evil giant like that. but this time, i'm a little confused as to what i should feel. this time, it's not the company protecting its wad of cash, but rather, protecting its subscribers. a spammer was found guilty of sending messages on facebook about drugs and sex. apparently, he sent some 4 million of such messages after fooling people into giving him their passwords (don't give anyone your passwords, people!). and so, facebook wins $873mil judgement against spammer.

Just because a company wins, doesn't necessarily make it the evil side of it. Suing Starbucks because their coffee was too hot? McDonald's for making them fat?

I mean, I'm sure facebook will all be sending us checks for our cut of the deal, so I'm all fine with it.

I also don't understand why people ever give out their passwords. I like gmail spam filter though, I have about 2,000 SPAM messages every month, and only about 2 of them get through monthly. Yay google!

yeah, that's what i was trying to get at. i just mean lately all the articles i've read have been about huge companies destroying the little guy. but this one's different. i'm glad as hell he lost. i guess i'm just hesitant because $873mil is a lot of money. and it's not like they sued microsoft or something. it was a guy. so he's gonna have a headache now for a long time. and so will his children.

and rock on, gmail spam filter!

I only give out my passwords when the email sender tells me that he's a Nigerian prince, and that I am the only one who can help him claim his birthright inheritance. Sure, I have to give him all my bank account information, but he promised to give me $2 million! I'll be rich!!

well yeah! if a prince offers me two million dollars (was his email sj27hdb2@hdue35.com?), I don't really have a choice!

Haha. Why does PeterDot always remind me of MC Frontalot songs? This is an awesome rap-type song about those Nigerian scams.
