I printed out my boarding pass after an online checkin the other day for my flight from Chicago to Houston. Domestic flights are easy. I was in seat 11B, which was as close to the front as I could get, an aisle, and in economy plus, which means I get a whopping five additional inches of leg room.
Last night, after saying goodbye to the fam, nellie and maggie33 drove me to O'Hare. Early, of course, since the Compernolle in me kicked in a few hours before the flight.
The gate was packed with people. No places to sit, really, except next to huge people eating McDonald's, as all the other available seats were open. So I wandered around a bit, and came back right before boarding.
I heard my name called to the desk, and got nervous that I goofed up, and because it was a full flight, I'd get bumped or something. Instead, they gave me a new boarding pass. I didn't think anything of it, assuming my printed boarding pass was no good and they needed to give me a real one.
Then I went to my seat. 4B. Hmm. That's a really low number. Could it be...? Is it...? Why yes! It is first class!
They gave me a cheese plate! And fruit! And some whiskey!
And now I'm in Houston.

[29 December 2009]Ha, a cheese plate! Too bad this wasn't for a flight back to China (since that would make the first class goodness last longer).
THE Lowly Peon
[29 December 2009]WJerome: true. plus the fact that international first class seats are like a hotel. they give you a bed and a huge tv and wait on you hand and foot. not to mention that tickets are generally like $8k.
though I did fly business class from Tokyo once...
