THE Lowly Peon

I Don't Know How People Put Up With This
30 December 2009, 6:01am

I just had a great evening. Went with Hannah, her mom, and my boss (her step dad) to a nice dinner and the Houston Rockets game, followed by a glass of wine with Hannah and her old high school buddies. It was fantastic. The game was actually a blast, the dinner was incredible, and her friends were a lot of fun. In fact, one of them knew several people from New Trier, which was weird at first, but then became fun to talk about.

Because my other boss forgot to bring the car keys to work today, I had no car. The big boss drove me downtown for dinner and the game, and he lent me his car to get home.

This, of course, means the glass of wine had to be small, slowly consumed, and followed by time and water. They had amazing wine, so this made me sad.

The car was also running on fumes, so I had to fill it up. I went to two gas stations, but they both weren't working (but they don't post that it's closed, so I had to try two pumps at each before concluding that the place was closed. Note that my iPhone does not get service in america because I refuse to pay AT&T). I decided to call it a night, because it was 12:30 and I need to work tomorrow.

I needed to turn left out of the gas station, but there was a median over the tiny two lane road. So I had to turn right. But there was a big concrete thing blocking the left turn lane, so a U-turn was out of the question. So I had to turn right, and then a U-turn, then a left. But I got stuck at the light. For ten minutes. The darn* sensors didn't pick up the huge truck that I was driving.

I finally made it home to the apartment complex a zillion miles out of town. But I couldn't get in because they changed the gate code. I don't even know why they have this gate. So I waited in the car for about ten minutes, but no one showed. So I ran, through the cold rain, to the apartment, with the car double parked outside the gate, to get the opener. Then ran back.

Now it's 1am, and I need to work at 8am.
