THE Lowly Peon

Mission Accomplished!
26 February 2012, 8:54pm

Pretty much ever since I've been running for regular exercise, I've run somewhere between 3 and 4 miles. Sometimes even less. But then, a few months ago, I went for a run and felt so good that, in the words of Forrest Gump, I just kept running (though not quite as far as he did).

That day, I was so amazed at how easy it was to get past my previous limit of about 4 miles, I set a goal for myself:

My goal was to run ten miles without stopping by the end of the spring.

It took me a while, and my trip to China, and then another to Chicago, hindered my progress a bit. (It's amazing how import routine can be.) It was really tough to be able to run comfortably for 6.2 miles, but once I did, it became nothing special. I found myself running 6 or 7 miles every weekend, and then 4 or 5 several days during the week. And then I got stuck at 8 miles.

I watched benji run miles and miles while I struggled to keep at my 8.

And then yesterday, once again, I just kept running.

And I reached my goal! I ran ten miles without stopping! It took me 1:26, which ain't such a bad pace, if you ask me (8:30/mile).

You can see the whole run, including the end where I just needed to get miles in, here: http://runkeeper.com/user/thelowlypeon/activity/72396411

Yay! Next stop: half marathon!

Congratulations, Pete! You even beat your goal, as Spring hasn't even started yet (I always think of Spring starting on March 1st)!

How do your legs feel today?
