THE Lowly Peon

A Strange Morning, or: the Music I've Listened to Today
21 August 2012, 4:33pm

Today's been kind of a strange day so far. Yesterday was kind of a rough day, mostly with work, but at the end of the day I wound up very exhausted and feeling kind of down. Usually I wake up the next day excited to start over (life is awesome like that), but for some reason this morning my biorhythms were still low.

On my walk to work I listened to Iron & Wine for the first time in ages. Honestly, probably since college. It was good, but reminded me way too much of the period in my life when I listened to it a lot. Suffice it to say that it didn't help pick up my mood.

Once I arrived in the office, I decided Iron & Wine wasn't cutting it, so as I made a pot of coffee (since no one else in the office seems to live by the "you kill it, you fill it" rule of life), I put on my Dylan favorites. And wow it was awesome. Within minutes I was astonished by two things:

  1. Music you listened to primarily in a certain period of your life is incredibly good at making you feel like you did in that period
  2. Bob Dylan is always good at making me feel good about life

So it was good. I exhausted my Dylan favorites list, and for whatever reason, decided to listen to Nine Inch Nails' Fragile. And I've probably been making a fool of myself in the office for dancing around on my chair. I've been able to hold myself back from singing (read: "shouting"), but can't stop wiggling around and waving my fist in the air.

Music is awesome.
