This is insane. Nearly half the planet appears to be covered in ice. Meanwhile, parts of Australia are unusually hot and other parts are in a long drought. Is this what they meant by "climate change"?
I don't doubt that the amount of snow we have is unprecedented, but that map is completely misleading. The mercator projection greatly exaggerates the top half of the northern hemisphere! they need to put this onto a gobe or something.
however, take a look at this image, taken march 8, 2008, by NASA (on wikipedia):
Of course the projection is going to appear like having more ice, but there's no doubt that the photo above is unusually icy. Whatever projection, nearly half of the 48 states are covered in ice. China is more than half covered in ice. It's snowing here in HZ for the tenth time this winter, when they usually average about .5x a year!
