I'm sure this article is a bit over the top, but even if you take it with a grain of salt it's horrifying. We all know these things happen in our food industry, so why does no one talk about it? Why are we only talking about Banks being evil, or electronics companies exploiting Chinese factories (and paying them well above local minimum wage)?

Just yesterday I was going to send my dad an email asking why lawyers and accountants always put "random" words in quotes. It seems it may be their way to emphasize or somehow distinguish part of their sentence with the rest, the same way italics may. Since moving back to the states and getting a new number, I've been receiving lots of spam calls. My Google Voice number, the one you all know and use, allows for easy filtering of numbers and calls. AT&T does not.

While in Houston a few weeks back, I noticed that all of our Chinese servers were going down for huge chunks of time without anyone notifying us. Turns out that, due to energy shortages, the Chinese government has ordered that we close the factory on Thursdays, and we'll work on Sundays to make up for it.
Side note: if I take a bike home, from where the company bus drops us, it takes about 12 minutes, so I get home around 5:40. Today, by bus, it took me until 6:50.
Since I came back to Hangzhou on Friday, I've been loving almost every minute. The minutes I don't love are the ones where I'm soaked from the 90+ degree 95% humid weather. No exaggerating, I sweat through my clothes less than ten minutes after being outside, even if I'm doing no sort of physical activity.
For the last three years, I've had more or less the same annual schedule. Home for Christmas in Chicago and a quick business trip afterwards, then home for the summer to renew my Chinese visa. I'm in Houston now as part of the latter requirement — here for over two weeks to get a visa and meetings and stuff.

After work yesterday, when it was 105F and there wasn't a cloud in the sky to protect me, I decided to go geocaching quickly before going up north to crash my colleague's weekly mexican food party.
keep forgetting I'm not actually Chinese. in Houston 2.5wks to renew my visa, and only realized three days before leaving I haven't yet.
So Forbes has CC ranked as the 51st best school in the country. This is far from what I had thought, but still places us above Berkeley and some other good ones.

On my way home from my date with daisy and buying new shoes today, I was walking by the Feiyunjiang bus station when I saw four guys, two on each of two mopeds, grabbing moped batteries and riding off. These batteries are not cheap. Really, they cost probably about half as much as a new bike costs.

I like my job because after 5pm, I can forget all about it. In fact, I think that most Americans tend to choose jobs with that in mind. And I say Americans because, after living in China, I don't think it's a global phenomenon.
Usually when I'm bored, and though this week has been busy I sure have been bored, I eat lots of little snacks all the time. Worse, the snacks fill me up, but something in my upbringing tells me i still need to eat meals three times a day. So for my week of discontent, I've been much more aware of my food intake. And it's felt great.
Feeling much better! I made a small change which has had a drastic effect on the recent activity page. So yay!

I just went for a run in nearly perfect weather. And it's even more perfect because in Hangzhou, perfect weather means zillions of people (remember how we used to go to Six Flags intentionally when there was a storm coming, because it'd scare away all the people?).

this is pretty amazing. this guy went to the top of a volcano in the canary islands and took 1200 images, each a 6 minute exposure, and merged them together to make a 360 degree view of extremely high quality.

a few weeks ago, I went to Chengdu to bring one of our sales offices onto our wide area network. I stayed at the sheraton because of a miscommunication with my colleague (ha. life is rough, eh?). at the Sheraton, they have a small little French style cafe in the lobby, with decent coffee/espresso drinks, and a bunch of super-sweet pastries.
